Instant Twitter Reaction to the Third Presidential Debate: Foreign Policy
This has proven true in the first two debates we’ll see how well the candidates listen to the public. I really think both candidates lose when they violate these ideas:
Regarding the view of Undecideds on CNN holding dials that go up and down depending on how they view the answers:
- Kristen Soltis @KLSoltis Every time Ryan talks about a plan with concrete ideas, squiggles go through the roof.
- Kristen Soltis @KLSoltis Anytime either guy goes negative, not so much. Voters want plans, not punches.
Post-Debate Reactions:
- Sarah Huisenga @SarahH_CBSNJ .@bobschieffer ends w/ quote from his mom: “Go vote. It makes you feel big and strong.”
- Alex Castellanos @alexcast O not strong enough to disqualify R. trajectory of race unchanged. Romney = safe change MT @JayTexal: @RetireesUnited how strong is O doing?
- Luke Russert @LukeRussert #Romney “We’ll work with good Democrats and good Republicans.” Very bipartisan ending, pivot to the middle at the end.
- Rick Klein @rickklein that was Tagg Romney talking to the president, Obama nodding. Bet an apology/explanation was part of their chat. #debates
- Jon Ralston @RalstonReports So @chucktodd, @TheFix say POTUS wins. Other takes? I thought closer to draw. Obama seemed more angry, but Romney did not counterpunch much.
- Mark Murray @mmurraypolitics RT AliNBCNews Romney team first in the spin room, they say Obama using lines like “horse and bayonet” looked below presidency
- Kristen Soltis @KLSoltis I thought the only way tonight would matter is if there was a big “moment” to dominate the news. Sounds like there wasn’t?
- Matt Moon @alaskan CNN’s Candy Crowley: “Obama came to rough up Mitt Romney … Mitt Romney came to seize on his momentum.”
- Mike O’Brien @mpoindc Again, the extent to which Romney largely declined to re-litigate his strong Libya attacks against Obama is stunning to me. #NBCPolitics
- Luke Russert @LukeRussert Sports analogy: #Romney pulled his starters from that debate, wanted no injuries. #Obama gets W, no real game changers. OBL strongest moment
- Jon Ralston @RalstonReports My most important general observation reaffirmed after live-tweeting this debate: Lefties much more humorless than righties. #laughalittle
- Ross Douthat @DouthatNYT I expect the snap polls to give a clear edge to Obama, and for Romney’s polling to suffer not all. #punditry
- Rich Lowry @RichLowry gergen: romney passed commander in chief test
- Gabriel Malor @gabrielmalor RT @mkhammer: MSNBC is talking about Romney’s right flank and “racial hatred” instead of trumpeting an Obama win. Maybe Romney did beat him.
- Tom Bevan @TomBevanRCP Snap impressions: Obama strong, got in zingers, made his pts. Romney competent, also got in zingers. Seemed like a draw. No change in race.
- Gabriel Malor @gabrielmalor MT @jnsmall: Not mentioned: euro zone crisis, climate change, South China Sea islands, fast & furious, Sinai, Bahrain, Yemen, North Korea
- John Ekdahl, Jr. @JohnEkdahl Baier just made a good point. Obama tried to go *back* to Libya to draw him out. Obama had a planned attack.
- Luke Russert @LukeRussert Boiled down: #Romney moderate and measured, strategy to appear presidential. #Obama went Bush ’04 ‘u r safer bc of me…trust me’ etc.
- Adrian Gray @adrian_gray Romney really tipped the scale in his favor in last ten minutes…looked like 1st debate at the end.
- Mark Halperin @MarkHalperin Boca Raton debate grades: Obama B+, Romney B+. Full report cards coming soon on http://thepage.time.com

- Stephen Hayes @stephenfhayes Wow, I’m very surprised at how aggressive Obama is being in these first ten minutes. Thought he’d be aggressive, but this is really tough.
- Stuart Rothenberg @StuPolitics The president needs to come off the accelerator a bit. Suddenly, Romney looks confident.

- Chuck Todd @chucktodd POTUS methodically pushing back on Romney in a number of areas. POTUS acting like a candidate who feels he needs to win this debate tonight

- Robert Costa @robertcostaNRO Obama is mocking here. Not sure how some voters will respond. There is a fine line between asserting presidential authority and being harsh
- Stephen Hayes @stephenfhayes Seems to me President Obama’s condescension has crossed the line from aggressive to disrespectful. Will voters like him mocking Romney?
