Cain 23 Romney 22 in The Des Moines Sunday Register Poll

Two months before the first votes will be cast in the Republican presidential nominating contest, Herman Cain and Mitt Romney have the strongest support among party activists who plan to participate in the Iowa caucuses, according to a new poll released Saturday evening.

The Iowa Poll in The Des Moines Sunday Register provided the clearest snapshot yet of how candidates stand in the Republican presidential race. Mr. Cain led the survey with 23 percent, and Mr. Romney followed with 22 percent of support among Republican voters, a difference that is statistically insignificant.
