Does Islam Mean Peace?
You often hear it said that, “Islam means peace.” This comes not just from Muslims, but from our own politicians. George W. Bush said that Islam is a, “Religion of Peace.”
You hear that Islam is a faith which should be respected, and the US has gone to extraordinary lengths to avoid offending Muslim sensibilities in the Iraq and Afghanistan.
We also hear over and over that Muslim terrorists have “hijacked” or “misunderstood” their religion. Only a tiny portion of Muslims are terrorists, so they must just be a loony fringe. Any group that contains over a billion people is bound to have a fair number of whackos, so it’s not fair to use their actions to paint the whole group.
