Idiots. These folks have a responsibility to invest their wealth in productive endeavor, employing others, growing the pie, raising everyone’s boats … pick your metaphor. They are free to give it away, of course, but that benefits mostly their own consciences rather than the economy or society.
That said, if I were Bill Gates, I would have already been to the moon and back with my billions, perhaps even further. That would have employed a lot of folks and driven beautiful new technology to make it happen. What a great adventure it would have been.
These 40 folks could make a difference. Instead they will piss their money away. Pity.
