2010
Coverage
- Subsidies begin for small businesses to provide coverage to employees.
- Insurance companies barred from denying coverage to children with pre-existing illness.
- Children permitted to stay on their parents’ insurance policies until their 26th birthday.
2011
Coverage
- Set up long-term care program under which people pay premiums into system for at least five years and become eligible for support payments if they need assistance in daily living.
Taxes and fees
- Drug makers face annual fee of $2.5 billion (rises in subsequent years).
2012
Taxes and fees
- New Medicare taxes on individuals earning more than $200,000 a year and couples filing jointly earning more than $250,000 a year.
- Tax on wages rises to 2.35% from 1.45%.
- New 3.8% tax on unearned income such as dividends and interest.
- Excise tax of 2.9% imposed on sale of medical devices.
2013
Coverage
- Create exchanges where people without employer coverage, as well as small businesses, can shop for health coverage. Insurance companies barred from denying coverage to anyone with pre-existing illness.
- Requirement begins for most people to have health insurance. Subsidies begin for lower and middle-income people. People at 133% of federal poverty level pay maximum of 3% of income for coverage. People at 400% of poverty level pay up to 9.5% of income. (Poverty level currently is about $22,000 for a family of four.)
- Medicaid, the federal-state program for the poor, expands to all Americans with income up to 133% of federal poverty level.

The dems say this plan pays for itself. But in 2012 the medicare tax goes from 1.45% to 2.35%. Sounds more like wage-earning Americans are paying for the plan, though. Someone earning $50K/year will pay an additional $450/year in medicare taxes. So, think if it as sitting down on January 1st of each year and writing out a $450 check to “Obamacare” — How many Obama supporters would change their opinions if they looked at it this way?

WOOHOO, more taxes thanks a lot Obama. Okay lets get this straight, 3.8% tax on interest and dividends so basically we are being forced to stop investing in the country and hide our money in our mattresses to keep the government from getting their hands on it. Plus a REQUIREMENT to pay almost 10% of your income if you make over 200k a year? The president doesnt have to worry about it. Once he is out of office he doesnt have to pay taxes for the rest of his life. I would not be surprised if we see another Kennedy style assassination, I am not adovocating violence I am merely saying that it would not surprise me.
There is way too much greed in the world! Not everyone can work at a high paying job. If they could who would work at McDonald’s? Who would work at the restaurants? Who would clean public buildings? Pick up your garbage? When everyone in America gets paid the same amount of money no matter what job then maybe someone could complain about the obamacare. Furthermore Doesn’t anyone care about others anymore? Have we really gotten that far off track where we only think about ourselves? Anyone can sit in a office and make big money doing nothing, Takes a hard worker to come pick up your trash! Think about it?
Finally a bill that’s fair for everybody. I hate when stupid people confuse social justice with communism.

you are asking these ignorant people to think..its not going to happen in your lifetime or mine. They prefer to get their news in repeatable sound bites from immoral people like Newt Gingrich (who served his first wife divorse papers a day after coming out of cancer surgery…not exactly someone who gives one iota about anyone els).
When medicare was first drwan up there was just as much controversy and debate over it. Now of all the complaints about medicare, not one person receiving it will give it up. How do I know this for a fact, because you always have the option to decline it and get your own coveage and no one does.
Be patient, keep reading the facts, and vote by what/who is right for you. Not who rich, wealthy politicans want to represent but for you. The trouble with all the above people is, they actually think they are in the wealthy population that will benefit from abolishing something like this healthcare bill. They can only see taxes not controlled medical expenses and a move FROM the 30% rate increases per year to a locked pricing system for insurance.
What a joke! This healthcare plan is another mismanagement of tax payers money. The goverment will spend these funds and destroy the plan just like they are doing to Social Security. Stop increasing the legal citizens taxes and enforce the laws that are in place to protect law abiding American citizens. Tax payers already fund healthcare but we choose to call it prisons. Criminals receive healthcare from my taxes but I have to fund my own and others healthcare? Goverment officials need to take their heads out of their @sses and again serve and protect the legal taxpaying American citizen.
I don’t understand how people who admitedly have more money than they can spend, complain about paying money they would never miss. It is rediculous that in a time and era like this that anybody should go without reliable healthcare. The more the point gets pushed the more apparent it is that the mentality is simply, reliable medical for the wealthy and who cares about the poor, the hard workers of this country. The ones that make all the money for these rich, elitist, money worshipers. The ones that wake up ,ost days wondering how they will be able to pay their overpriced rents and feed their children. It is such a horrible feeling to realize your just and expendable commodity. Im sorry if you can’t get the newest computers and gagets right when they come out, or have to cancel maybe one of your many getaways to some tropical paradise that most won’t ever see, but all i see is impovershed people struggeling and sick, with no chance of atleast, the proper healthcare the that you think you have the sole right to. Here’s what I know about Obamacare. I LOST MY HEALTH INSURANCE!
Yes, that’s right. I worked for one company for 35 years because they had a wonder pension plan, which the administrator lost most of in the stock market; and a wonder health care package - a top notch health benefit plan for life after I retire. The Obamacare regulations put such a heavy burden on the self funded health plan, I GOT DROPPED. Now I’m retired with half the pension I should have gotten, under social security/medicare age, and I HAVE NO HEALTH INSURANCE. WAKE UP AMERICA!
