Massachusetts Massacre–Brown Wins Big, Obama Fails
In what could well be the biggest political news since the GOP swept control of Congress in 1994, the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts turned into the ‘Massachusetts massacre’ as Republican Scott Brown defeated Kennedy Democrat Martha Coakley 53-46%–a 7-point margin.
Before 9:30 PM EST, Fox News and the AP had called the election in favor of Brown, with over 75% of the votes counted.
In spite of charges of voter irregularities trumped up by the Coakley campaign, it will be difficult for these accusations to stick given the margin of victory. Brown received roughly 100,000 more votes than Coakley.
It wasn’t even close.
