Disgusting: Pray for Obama T-Shirt - Psalm 109:8 “Let His Days Be Few” - An anti-Obama bumper-sticker slogan (This absolutely repugnant!)
An anti-Obama bumper-sticker slogan which seems to urge people to pray for an end to the President’s days (in office?).

Anyway, now it’s a real thing: CafePress is selling T-shirts and bumper stickers, the Christian Science Monitor is wondering whether it’s “funny or sinister” to pray for Obama’s death, and Rachel Maddow referenced it last night on her show.
However, as a number of commentators have noted, the wording that follows this bumper-sticker appeal is somewhat more disturbing:
Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labor.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

Well, They have a “Pray for Republicans” James5:1-6. You don’t hear them crying about a T-shirt! What happened to freedom of speech? Have yoou been to the mall lately? the crude, vular anti-Christian t-shirts are common.

Concerning Psalm 109:8, I have had experiences with evangelical and very, very right-wing baptists all my life and find most of them to be very upstanding people who work very diligently to know God. One of the things they themselves will tell you, after having heard it from the pulpit maybe about a gazillion times, is that you never take scripture out of context, meaning that 109:8 must be read in context of the entire psalm.
And here it becomes very clear that in wanting to pray this psalm for Obama, one is wishing for his death. To argue that one is just calling for the end of his days in office is silly, for the next verse clearly calls for his children to become orphans and his wife to become a widow, indicating very clearly that the one being cursed in the reciting of this psalm is supposed to die. There is just no getting around this conclusion.
It saddens me to no end to see this segment of christianity stoop so low. This kind of stuff is really no different than what we see happening in the islamic world, with radical groups using snippets of their scripture in order to justify murder.
But far more saddening is to see that the recognized leadership of the evangelical movement and of the southern baptist convention have done absolutely nothing to condemn this. By their tacit behaviour, they are going a long way toward encouraging some whacked out young person to go get a gun and try to shoot the president of the USA.

every conservative “christian” knows exactly what this prayer means. This is a threat, and the secret service should take it seriously.
It is not so much WHAT is being said, but that it is being said at all, that bothers me. We are in a time which will test the resolve of ALL PEOPLE OF THE EARTH to find a way to unite in a common cause. Even republicans voted for Pres. Obama because they knew that NO REPUBLICAN in office would take the actions necessary to get us out of the mess we were (and still are) in! Once things were turned around they would pass out the stones THEMSELVES with which to dethrone one of the few people with the courage to do what was necessary, rather than what was popular. But, it seems that even as the President is juggling healthcare,the environment, two wars, reconciling with a world which had come to hate us, jobs AND the economy in general et.al. Oh yeah, ALL of our childrens future, many so called patriots think it’s a good idea to throw stones at him!! Which in the interest of all the above mentioned IS INSANE! Somehow we must find a way back to a place of unity (and NOT guided by any books written by a bunch of DEAD GUYS)!!!
For those who think this is funny, I pray for them. Read the true usage of this prayer and who it was intended for first. This was a prayer for an enemy of the state of Israel, not its leader. Even when wicked leaders ruled, the people didn’t pray for their destruction. This passage talks about making his children fatherless and his wife a widow. (What I meant was for his days to be few in office, not his life–HA!HA!HA!) As a God-fearing man and an educated one, this is not funny. This type of reasoning is what’s wrong when people use the Bible to justify their actions. They take one passage and build a whole belief system on it. I was taught to read the verses before and after to get the true context of the verse. Then cross-reference it with other verses. This clearly is asking to end an enemy’s life. Even if you disagree with the President, to ask for the end of his life means you are an enemy of the State and thereby a traitor to the United States. If a foreign country sent or joked about this during the times of Bush or any other President, they would be classified as a terrorist and we would have taken swift and immediate action. Sure, I can disagree with some choices the Democrats and Obama has done, but to wish death upon them is clearly non-Christian behavior or Christ-like. Plus, with him being the First African American President, and tying a passage justifying his harm, is clearly a call for his assassination. This reminds me of another time in history where people used the bible to justify other horrific events; i.e slavery, the holocaust. Whoa unto you!
How scary that some would go to such great lenghts to be so cruel. It’s not funny at all. He is a human being with loved ones. Liberals need to quite taking things so serious?…Really? I think whoever thought to do this is a little too serious with his hatred for another human being.
God is a righteous God and those who wish evil upon other people are often times the recepients of the very evil that they wish on others. Be careflul, God is not mocked for if you dig a ditch for one person, you better dig one for yourself as well. This nation is suffering from deeds done in the past as well as those being done in the present and it has nothing to do with politics.
Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Those who pray this prayer for anyone are actually cursing the person. These things are to be toyed around with. However, if a person is considering doing this they should think twice about it, another view point of a curse is judgment. If a person places judgment against another they too stand in line to be judged. Often that judgment may be ten times worse.
In all things research whether it is religion or science. Research before you attempt anything, because people do perish for lack of knowledge.
If this mean harm towards the president, then the same thing that they wish upon him will happen to them and I do pray this for all those who are wishing this.
First, it must be understood that the views express on the various t-shirts and bumper sticks do not reflect the views of Christians. It is impossible for someone to truly practice the Christian as expressed in the Holy Scriptures and hold such contempt in their hearts for an individual.
I invite all the individuals that advocate the words of Psa 109 to consider the words of Jesus and Paul as they pertain to the Christian behavior to their leaders of the Land.

Alright. I am a republican with a military spouse and DID NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA. I do not like him, his tactics, ethics or the way he is so easily influenced by others. It sickens me. I do pray he does not get re-elected for a 2nd term- as for the now, I just shake my head and go with the flow of things. He sold the people of this country false hopes of “change” and I have yet to see anything good.
How many times have you read a quote that has been twisted for a certain purpose- to make a point? I do not, in any way, believe that this shirt was meant as a threat. I believe it only pertains to the first portion containing the office. How tacky would it look on a t-shirt “psalms109:8 1st portion” or psalms 109:8 only partial verse”… Besides the point, the shirt and the bible are open to each persons own interpretation. That’s why we have so many religions in the world and why there is so much debate over it. I for one- would wear it.
Amazing that the only scriptures quoted in the media concerning these items are the ones that follow the actual scripture referenced on the shirt! It does not reference 109:9…it references 109:8. Why try to read more into it than what it actually references? Many people are ready for this man to be removed from office, the same things were said about our previous president if I remember correctly!
What I think is sad is that Obama’s supporters were wearing this shirt thinking it was a scripture that actually supports him in his office. If they ever cared to take the time to read the scripture in its entirety, they would never have even purchased the shirt or bumper sticker in the first place. People don’t know the Bible or they wouldn’t be duped.
Whatever t-shirts stupid Russ was talking about that the Dems had about Republicans (”publicans” see biblical reference “publicans and sinners” Smiths Bible Dictionary) is not to be compared with the anti-Obama t-shirts. No Democrat is running around with an AR-15 rifle in front of Bill O’Reily or Rush Limbaugh talking about starting a shooting war and killing folks. The wingnuts have been trying to incite violence against Obama for a long time but are using references like this to say with a wink and a nod what they are too ashamed to say in public. They obviously haven’t adjusted to loosing the civil war after 150 years and can’t accept the fact that after claiming Black people should “pull themselves up by their bootstraps” some Black people have done just that much to their horror.
Where in that verse does it mention death??? Asking for his days to be few and for another to take office, does not ask for his death. It just asks for his days in office to be few. Only in this administration would it be considered “sinister”.

Well I just saw them advertise these shirts on Good Morning America the other day…. Which I think is very wrong….God will always be on his side. God loves President Obama and he would never harm him or his family. It is not Obaama’s fault that this country is like this, you need to blame the last President of the United States…
Do these people realize that 1. the bible was written hundreds of years after the time it describes, 2. the one thing jesus rejects more than anything is HATE, regardless of who it is directed at. if you believe, fine. If you don’t you should be allowed to have your own beliefs and live a HAPPY and FULLFILLING life. If you preach hate towards anyone you deserve just as much fire and brimstone as charles manson. I wonder why if they were referring to Psalm 109:9, 10, 11 & 12, as you suggest, they specifically ONLY listed 109:8? Kinda looks to me like they mean 109:8… and not 9, 10, 11 and 12.
