Statement from Bertha Lewis, Chief Organizer, ACORN Regarding Recent News Reports:
The relentless attacks on ACORN’s members, its staff and the policies and positions we promote are unprecedented. An international entertainment conglomerate, disguising itself as a “news” agency (Fox), has expended millions, if not tens of millions of dollars, in their attempt to destroy the largest community organization of Black, Latino, poor and working class people in the country. It is not coincidence that the most recent attacks have been launched just when health care reform is gaining traction. It is clear they’ve had these tapes for months.
We are their Willy Horton for 2009. We are the boogeyman for the right-wing and its echo chambers. If ACORN did not exist, the right-wing would have needed to create us in order to achieve their agenda, their missions, their ideal, retrograde America. This recent scam, which was attempted in San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia to name a few places, had failed for months before the results we’ve all recently seen. I am appalled and angry; I cannot and I will not defend the actions of the workers depicted in the video, who have since been terminated. But it is clear that the videos are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed by conservative activist “filmmaker” O’Keefe and his partner in crime. And, in fact, a crime it was – our lawyers believe a felony – and we will be taking legal action against Fox and their co-conspirators. (more…)

First I like to say I am an African American, yes Fox News is taking advantage of this ACORN scandal, but you can’t blame Fox. ACORN hired this uneducated hoodlum, whom did they think they were getting. There should be a investigation by the justice department. ACORN stated this is only a few individuals and they have been fired. This couple with the voter registration problems it should have been done a long time ago. If this was not a African American organization it would have been investigated a long time ago

Apparently, nowadays in America you can (A) Blame George Bush (B) Blame Fox News (C) Cry Racist. Three foolproof excuses, no matter what situation you find yourself in, ONE of these is bound to work. Bertha Lewis must not realize that this is the beginning of the end for all the corrupt organizations like ACORN who survive on the backs of the hard-working American taxpayer. No more. There are now too many of us watching and paying very close attention to EVERYTHING that is going on in the country. We will not accept the same old LAME excuses for your corruption. Enough is enough.
People are sick and TIRED of the Race card being pulled in the most inappropriate of circumstances and when it’s convenient to do so. That radically overused argument DOESN”T PLAY ANYMORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These people should be in a federal prison.
Racism. Alive and well and being promoted as part of the Acorn charter for mainly Black and Brown folks as big bertha puts it. (The big bertha slur is about her position in one of the largest government funded liberal
‘poor-folks’ radicalist group in America.) Racism is their foundation and creed, and their leadership has the unfeigned gall to act violated!! If these racists aren’t a perfect example of the uber-left nudging of wedges between groups of people to gain power, I don’w know what is.
I don’t understand? Who were the people breaking the law? Why didn’t the ACORN workers call the police or 911 when this couple first walked through the door and explained their “business”? We the people have had enough of such garbage. Close ACORN , now!!!!
ACORN caught red-handed and wants to blame FOX news? Really? Does Bertha Lewis really believe Americans are that stupid? If she does she has underestimated us. Go get her, Glenn. This is just the beginning of the sinking of the failboat known as ACORN.
