Sarah Palin rumors debunked

A Charlie Martin has set up a page listing and confirming or debunking all the rumours about Sarah Palin. I suggest anyone writing about her in the media check with this page, before repeating something that is false.

Here are some of the debunked rumours:

  1. No she wasn’t a member of the (wild-eyed libertarian) Alaska independence Party, although her husband once was
  2. No, she was never a Pat Buchanan supporter; even when Buchanan claims she was, she was on the board of Steve Forbes’a campaign in Alaska.
  3. No, she’s not anti-semitic. In fact, she has an Israeli flag in her office. (Contrary to popular belief, the usual Evangelical thinks Israel has a right to exist, granted by God.)
  4. No, she’s doesn’t believe that the Iraq War was directed by God. Yes, she did pray that proceeding with the war was God’s will. (Ever hear the phrase “Not my will, but Thine, be done”?)
  5. No, Buchanan doesn’t support her now; in fact he’s supporting Obama. (Buchanan did think her speech was amazing, but then so do 80 percent of the people who saw it.)
  6. yes, she was pregnant when she got married
  7. Yes, barring immaculate conception, Bristol appears to have had sex with her fiancee. No, Bristol didn’t receive only “abstinence-only” sex ed.
  8. yes, she did fire the public safety guy — but he said in the Anchorage paper that, for the record, she never, and no one else in her administration ever, tried to make him fire her ex-brother-in-law
  9. and yes, the state trooper (her sister’s ex-husband) she was worried about did: tase her 10 year old nephew; drive his state patrol car while drinking or drunk; did threaten to “bring her down”; and did threaten to murder her father and sister if they dared to get an attorney to help with the divorce.
  10. No, she didn’t cut funding for unwed mothers; yes, she did increase it by “only” 354 percent instead of 454 percent, as part of a multi-year capital expenditures program. No, the Washington Post doesn’t appear to have corrected their story. Even after this was pointed out in the comments on the story.
  11. No, she didn’t cut special needs student funding; yes, she did raise it by “only” 175 percent.
  12. yes, she did ask the librarian if some books could be withdrawn because of being offensive; no, they couldn’t; yes she did threaten to fire the librarian a month later; no, that wasn’t over the books thing but instead over administrative issues; no, the librarian wasn’t fired either; yes, the librarian was a big supporter of one of her political opponents; yes, the librarian was also the girlfriend of the Chief of police mentioned above; no, this is not the first time in the history of civilization that someone has been threatened with being fired over a political dispute
  13. yes, she’s an was an Assembly of God Holy Roller. No, she doesn’t attend an AoG church now. Yes, she did leave the AoG because they were getting too weird for her.
  14. yes, she apparently believes in some variant of Intelligent Design
  15. no, she didn’t try to force the schools to teach it; she said if someone brought it up, it was an appropriate subject for debate.
  16. No, she doesn’t believe in “abstinence only” education. Yes, she thinks abstinence is an effective way of preventing pregnancy. Duh. Yes, she believes kids should learn about condom use in schools.
  17. yes, she kills animals and eats them, and wears their skins
  18. yes, she has on occasion tried to get money from the federal government.
  19. yes, she did finally turn down the money for the bridge. Yes, that meant changing her mind about it.
  20. yes, she was vetted extensively, not just in three days — I’ve got links to press reports about people coming to Wassila on 29 May, and we had her on our Veepstakes at PJM from the first day we ran it.
  21. Yes, Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech was written by a speechwriter. Duh. No, none of Obama’s, McCain’s, nor Biden’s speeches were impromptu off the cuff things either.

This is where the blogosphere can come into its own. It is the ability to specialise, to be the reference point on one small topic very well, and everyone then links to you. Martin has had huge traffic since the big US blogs started linking to his Palin Rumours page.

Any news on the plane put on Ebay? I heard on a liberal talk show this morning (Sunday) that it was purchased by a supporter..implying that it was never on ebay.
Nancy

The “trooper gate” scandle can be solved with one thing…

Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban
(he was under a restraining order)

That trooper should had been fired for that….

This Alaskan thinks that the above should be required reference material for all media. I should mention that I am NOT a registered Republican but an Independant that usually votes along Libertarian/Constitutionalist lines. In fact, I am not a Christian but rather an Eclectic Pagan. In the coming election I intend to vote the McCain/Palin ticket as I beleive Obama is a distinct threat to America.

Blessed Be

also…

8:

yes, she did fire the public safety guy — but he said in the Anchorage paper that, for the record, she never, and no one else in her administration ever, tried to make him fire her ex-brother-in-law

The public safety guy also said that neither Palin, her staff nor her husband asked that the trooper be fired

…Anchorage News 8/20/2008

Thanks for a great list. Wish mainstream media would consult before commenting or writing anything about Sarah Palin first.

I think the media has been very unfail to Sarah Palin. There a lot of working women in this country and balance a job and home. I and my family will be voting for McCain/Palin ticken. We feel like Obama is a threat to our country. it’s hard to understand how so many people can believe him.

submitted this to digg. The bots are already cleaving comments and burying it. If anyone wants to digg it here is the link: http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Sarah_Palin_rumors_debunked

Might want to hit that with the grammar comb. I’m not sure how comments on the WaPo’s site count as a credible source.

“yes, she apparently believes in some variant of Intelligent Design”

Goodbye moderates. Oh and the attempts at book banning too… priceless.

As for her views on sex education:

“Gov. Sarah Palin is among that group. In response to a questionnaire during Alaska’s gubernatorial race, Palin said, ‘I am opposed to explicit sex education.’”

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94332508

Maybe her tune has changed since her daughter got pregnant. Good judgment there, grandma.

And she stopped being a pentecostal 6 years ago? Isn’t that about the time she started bidding for the major leagues (Lt. Governor)? If none of you had a problem with Wright, I’m not going to knock your take on this but let’s not be hypocrites here. This is “speaking in tongues” territory. If you want to call that “enthusiasm,” I would challenge your intellectual integrity on the matter.

And to answer someone’s question…yes she put it on Ebay, but it didn’t sell and was sold to someone off Ebay.

JUSTIFICATION:
The MSM and particularly NBC, CNN and ABCNEWS among others continue to declare that Palin does not have female (or male) supporters despite evidence to the contrary that many women (and males) across many demographics love Gov Sarah Palin including Democrats and previously Hillary suppporters.

To add insult to injury, they smear her family with the most sexist, disgusting and inappropriate remarks.

Let’s fight back!

You are encouraged to contact the offenders, sign this petition, and let others know so we can stand up to the smears!

We are shooting for 5,000 by the end of September after which we plan to print and mail this to CNN and MSNBC, ABCNEWS and others.

Thank you for your continued support!

americans who get all dewy eyed over ms palins speach must remember that she was simply reading a scripted speach, writen by someone else. these were not her words or thoughts, they were words and thoughts of gifted speach writers who make a living out of making the average seem saintly as is the case with ms palin.

Sarah Palin rumors debunked | politikly.com…

\r\nI suggest anyone writing about her in the media check with this page, before repeating something…

Thanks for this as well as the “Nobama’s lies” list. Good stuff. Keep it up, and make sure it’s factual!

To Nancy, here is an article on Palin putting her predcecessor’s airplane on eBay (NYT, no less):

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/25/us/25jet.html

So it didn’t sell on eBay, big deal…it still got sold, didn’t it?!

One more thing: as far as Palin being a “wild eyed” religious fanatic, what the left doesn’t understand is that her faith and “religiosity” is pretty much normal to the rest of the country. Speaking as an Evangelical myself! :)

Also PLEASE debunk new rumor about Palin saying something about Obama being “Sambo”???

Hi, I haven’t read all the comments here but one thing I saw on the stupid aol message boards the other day was that the entire Palin family has a police record from Sarah on down to to Bristol. I still can’t believe all the attacks on Sarah and the Republican party in general this election. Seems the Democrats are always so quick to dismiss actual facts presented that might be negative to their own candidate but they are so willing to spread vicious rumors as truth about the Republican candidates. Such a slanted media we have today.. It’s really hard to find TRUTH anymore.

Here is another Palin rumor debunked:

Here is another Palin rumor debunked

http://wthrockmorton.com/2008/09/09/did-sarah-palin-cut-funds-to-poor-women-and-children/

Newsweek says she cut funding to WIC when in fact WIC in Alaska is alive and well with a modest increase in the FY 2009 budget.

Hope you can call attention to it…

Good research and reporting.
Please do more (all you can) to disperse this information
so that more Americans are aware of the facts and not just rumor and inuendo.

Pete - you should be more informed on Palin’s speech (not speach). The teleprompter was not working, it was delivered primarily from memory.

Off teleprompter, you can tell what candidate is speaking from what they believe, and which candidate is speaking what they think you want to hear. When they believe what they’re saying, they don’t have to fill the pauses where they stop to remember what their position is supposed to be with ‘aaaahhhh, ummmmmmmmm, errrrrrrr, welllllll,’ etc.

It’s very disturbing to read reports of people saying that they expect politicians to say what people want to hear in order to get votes. Once upon a time, it was known as lying.

If you vote for someone you know is lying, how can you complain about corruption in politics?

One more thing: as far as Palin being a “wild eyed” religious fanatic, what the left doesn’t understand is that her faith and “religiosity” is pretty much normal to the rest of the country

i sincerely doubt that ms palin is on ” a mission from god” . what sort of perverted freak honestly believes that god wants ms paling to bomb iraq women and children? if there is a god, i hope to god that he sets ms palin straight about slaughtering innocents.

If you vote for someone you know is lying, how can you complain about corruption in politics?

the republicans have redefined the word “lying”, “how can you tell when a republican is lying”, “they open their mouth”. america is the laughing stock of the world, bush is an imbecile, mccain is not too far behind. ms palin is certainly not the most qualified to do the vp job, she is merely a cheer leader who has the ability to say over and over the same thing, most certainly why she did not require a teleprompter for her party speach. actually americans deserve what they get, i love obamas retort about lipstick on a pig or in this case on a republican pig.

the plane was on ebay but was bought by a buisness man by the name of Reynolds

Is this true?
What do you think about this one ? ? ?
(This is an email being forwarded everywhere)

The Constitution is the supreme law in the United State s.

No judge or other governmental body, not even the Supreme Court, may override it in any circumstance!

Subject: I wonder if the judges will uphold this one…..

Yikes, I hope this is true. Wow! Think about this. I always thought that Clinton

had something on Obama. A birth certificate is a matter of public record. I wonder where it is.

We know that Obama refuses to r elease his birth certificate, and for some

reason it is not on file in Hawaii, so this is interesting. Is Obama Legally Eligible

to Serve as President?

Here’s something for you to ponder.

SOME TIME AGO HILARY SAID SHE HAD SOMETHING ON OBAMA

THAT WOULD CHANGE THE ELECTION, AND THAT’S WHY SHE ONLY

SUSPENDED HER QUEST FOR THE PRESIDENCY. PAY CLOSE

ATTENTION TO THE TIME FRAME AS YOU READ THIS.

This came from a USNA alumnus. It’ll be interesting to see how the media handles this.

Barack Obama is not a legal U.S. natural-born citizen, according to the law

on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between December 24, 1952,

to November 13, 1986. Federal Law states that the office of President

requires a person be a natural-born citizen, if the child was not born to two U.S.

citizen parents.

This is what exempts John McCain, though he was born in the US Panama Canal Zone .

US Law very clearly states: ‘. . . if only one parent is a U.S. Citizen at the time

of one’s birth, that parent must have resided in the United State s for a minimum

of ten years, five of which must be after the age of 16. Barack Obama’s father

was not a U.S. Citizen, that is a fact.

Obama’s mother was only 18 when Obama was born. This means even

though she had been a U.S. Citizen for 10 years, (or citizen of Hawaii being

a territory), his mother fails the test for at-least-5-years-prior-to Barack Obama’s

birth, but-after-age-16. In essence, Mother alone is not old enough to

qualify her son for automatic U.S. Citizenship. At most, 2 years elapsed from

his mother turning 16 to the time of Barack Obama’s birth when she was 18.

His mother would have needed to have been 16 + 5 = 21 years old at the time
of Barack Obama’s birth for him to be a natural-born citizen.

The Constitution clearly declares: Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold

the office of President. Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at

age 10, any other information does not matter because his mother is the
one who must fulfill the requirement to be a U.S. Citzen for 10 years prior

to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after age 16.

Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the USA for some

time frame to protect any citizenship he might have had, rather than living

in Indonesia . This is very clear cut and a glaring violation of U.S. Election
law. I think that Governor Schwarzenegger of California would be very

interested in discovering if Obama is allowed to be elected President

without being a natural-born U.S. Citizen, since this would set a precedent.

Stay tuned to your TV sets because I suspect some of this information will

be leaking through over the next several days.

MystWlkr: her teleprompter was not “broken”, please don’t let your enthusiasm distract you; she has said a number of lies as well, on things that don’t seem to really matter…so why lie about it?!?
Lisa: that has been debunked on snopes.com, just as the version regarding McCain as being ineligible has as well (seeing as he was born in Panama).

Thanks for the link!

Erik R, that “sex education” one’s actually in the list — the above is only a selection. Yours, specifically, is #50, and is false in multiple ways. The book-banning one is #40, and is neither supported by contemporaneous reports, nor even by Anne Kilkenny, the author of the “viral e-mail” that is the source of many of these.
