That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. All Democrats are unpatriotic because some threw away used plastic flags? I see all sorts of kids pulling them apart, etc… on the 4th of July. At any large 4th gathering you will find lots of flags on the ground– does that mean everyone there is unpatriotic as well? Ridiculous.
That picture of the trashed flags is a perfect metaphor for what the Dems will do to this country should Obama become President. I wonder if Michelle was finally proud of her country that evening?
How can you NOT take your flag home?? Isn’t it representive of your week as an American? Your time in history? The first black candidate for President? If these aren’t reason enough how about just plain old PRIDE in YOUR FLAG!!

disgusting but seriously is anyone surprised, watching that convention was like watching a freak show. The men looked like women the women looked masculine or just down right scruffy.
For those that threw their flags in the trash, I wish they would get out of this great country since they have no respect for their country’s flag. As for all the changes that Obama wants to change, what are they? He has still not stated what he wants changed in this country. Lots of us know how the Muslims feel about this country, not only them but every country that we tried to help & ended up making enemies. There is also a old saying that has been around for a lot of years that “The Blacks will inherit the earth” God help us as Obama & Michelle aren’t going to help anyone that isn’t their brothers & sisters.

Right, Dot. When I went to watch The Passion, I kept my ticket stub. It was a special moment to me. Surely they must have been like Barack America’s wife, finally proud of their country for one lousy day? Heck no they were NOT! To them, a flag is a symbol of what their party opposes. They are allergic to America’s flag. Give them an ‘O’ and they might cherish that.
I am not a Obama fan at all, but being realistic. These are cheaply made designed for one use propoganda flags. Many of teh people there were holding more than one. I am not sure but I would have to assume people kept one and left one behind. How many flags can you store in your home or keep as a keepsake. These were not cloth flags. I drive down teh street and see people with torn mildewed, wrapped around teh pole flags outside peoples homes all teh time. It does not make them unpatriotic just sloppy and busy. You cannot expect about say if each person is holding one 80,000 flags to be taken back to peoples homes, it’s not practical or realistic. This kind of not picking is why we could possibly lose teh election to a man who will disassemble our government and constitution to create a nanny state. We need to focus on bigger issues, not paper flags made for about 5 cents each being tossed away.
I suspect that, if you don’t want to carry a flag home from an event like this (not that *some* of us would ever think to ditch it), the obvious solution is to offer it to the local VFW, American Legion, or other veterans’ groups, so they might decorate the graves of fallen servicemen.
No doubt, the Republicans have already made such arrangements for leftover flags from their convention.

I got one of those little American flags at a 4th of July festival some years back, and I didn’t throw mine away. I removed the wooden stick and then I bought a little picture frame for the flag and put it on my shelf.
To me, not only was it unpatriotic but extremely wasteful. I would have liked to have been there and picked up as many as I could handle, after all those flags were tossed aside. During Flag Day, 4th of July, Sept 9, Veterans Day and any other national holiday to show pride and/or honor to my country, I like to use them as outside decorations! They look lovely lining my driveway and along the curb!!
I was at convention. I have my flag. It drove home with me and is already in a place of honor. There were many, many of us that understood the value, the responsibility, the honor of that flag. We did not place them on the ground during convention, but held them in our laps. We love our nation and our world. Please do not paint all democrates with the same paintbrush. This primary season should show you that we are not all alike but are very different with a mulitude of views.
I am a democrat and also attend the convention in Denver. For a “green convention” it was extremely wasteful. It seemed like they handed out signs for every important speaker except Bill Clinton and flags on 2 different nights. The crowd recieved no less that 4 signs each night. These were handed out by the bundles and they came by our seats multiple times with each sign. The waste of the trees, ink, $$$$$$, was not necessary. To go green means to reduce the amount of consumables that you use, not just put out trash cans for plastic or paper waste. This was the least green event that I have ever attended.
G-d bless American land that I love- stand be side her and guide her…..yeah and they had the nerve to sing some patriot song and once all the camera were off them- drop-into the garbage you go! Then you wonder why many of us Democrats are voting for Mccain and Palin. USA_USA_USA means still alot to some us Democrats.
I have been sitting here wondering what to post after reading all the comments,I just don’t know what to say,people have lost respect for anything pertaining to America,to discard the FLAG into the TRASH,I am really speechless as to what to say to these most stupid people,our soliders are being killed everyday so that we can have our FLAG and hang it or put it where ever we want,these people are not really patriot’s,they just play their part to look good to other people,saying look at me,look at me,while others like Carla and Chad work behind the scene,for something they beleive in with all their hearts,I just don’t know what to say to all the people that threw the American Flag into the trash,what does that tell you about this country.

Communists. The American Legion will reuse or destroy them for free. Generally they only accept the on the 4th of July or Flag Day.
Granted, a “flag” is kind of an abstract thing… kinda like a “fetus” not being Human - so you kill it and use it for scientific experiements…
But that’s why some people become conservatives and other remain socialist/progressives (as we are ALL indoctrinated into the socialist/progressive ideology in our Nation “Education” System… but some actually start applying Life’s lessons and experiences - and feelings - to what we were preached in school…

This is a total disgrace. Why are the flags not donated to an American Legion post, or burned with a proper ceremony? That is the proper way to dispose of an American flag, not throwing it in the garbage.

A nice update on this story. Many of the flags were retrieved before heading to a landfill. McCain’s here in CO Springs as I’m typing this, and take a guess where those leftover flags are being used?

Simply disgusting. And for all of you who went to the big event , did you notice the flag image on the ticket being upside down with Obama’s face over it? Now that’s another disgrace.
I’m sure the McCain campaign will capitalize on this one. Forget that the Republicans have completely ignored Americans over the last eight years and McCain will do it again for the next 4, since he voted with Bush nearly all of the time (this is a documented fact).

I don’t know how many people here have ever picked up trash after an event. The “Trash” shown in the bags in the photos looks like a staged photo to me. The trash is way too neat and clean. Only the buttom bag looks half way real and it has one flag with three possible flag sticks, clean and rolled up hanging out of the bag. Looks very staged. Why is that the Right thinks they lie and spin everything. Wake up America. Beware of being side tracked by the lies and half truths of the Right Wing GOP!

My dear, it does not matter if a flag costs 5 cents, 10 cents or a thousand dollars. THE FLAG IS SYMBOLIC, whether it flies from a solid gold flagpole or is an inexpensive decal on a GI’s uniform. The point is it symbolizes so much that is dear to the heart of every American, and should NEVER, EVER be treated in this respect.
Digorno pizza boxes at invesco? I call massive BULL***T on this. Vendors would not receive individually boxed pizzas for an event at this size. Having worked in food service before, those would come bulk packed in plastic with MAYBE a sticker on the package indicating the manufacturer and type of pizza
Ok, even if these were cheap little flags, they should not have been thrown out by the thousands. Give them to schools, VA hospitals, anything but the trash. I am afraid that this will be a pattern if Mr. O (I can’t even stand to write his name) is elected, God forbid. When he is through with something, he thows it away. My Father and 4 uncles fought for that flag in WW II. My dad froze in the snow in French forests during the Battle of the Bulge, one Uncle was wounded in Luzon in the Pacific. The flag is sacred in my home and to my family. They learned this at home. Nothing is taught in school and nothing is sacred. I am disturbed by the numerous comments that say–”What’s the big deal–it’s only a cheap flag.” Our flag was bought with the blood of all who have fought for freedom since 1776. Shame on you all for your lack of respect. Where are the values today? I am glad someone had the sense to rescue these flags. Perhaps we should send a book on the care and handling of our flag to the Democrats to educate them.

This being political, I would expect the Obama campaign to deny it. In fact, I would expect that they would deny it vigorously. The problem, though, is in what ever truth there may be to the story. That these flags were so unceremoniously sacked in plastic garbage bags seems fairly evident. Images seem to suggest that at least some were destined for the landfill.
The issue becomes one of base properiety; not whether it was proper or not to dispose of the flags in this manner, but rather whether those who did so are of the caliber to lead a great nation.

Our entire nation is wasting stuff. After marketing conventions there is ton’s of carpet thrown away, give-aways, posters etc. They should have used the flags I agree. For God’s sake, don’t be such dupes! The flags were being collected for use at the next rally. It’s appalling what easy prey people are for the Republican smear machine. McCain’s people didn’t “rescue” the flags (what the heck were they doing at the clean up of an Obama event anyway, or has no one bothered think of that?) — they stole them in an effort at another Swift Boat-style attack designed to take the heat off Sarah “What, Me Give an Interview?” Palin.
I am not as upset that the Dems dishonored the flag, although that is pretty low, as I am over the fact that they LIED about it after being caught red handed and even tried to twist it to make it look like the Repubs stole them.
For me, in my opinion, re distributing the used flags, was like redistributing used syringes from medical waste. How does one know what bacteria or virus that the flags may have had on them from the cross section of people that were at that rally? Another thing, many people that use rest rooms don’t also wash their hands after doing their duty. Plus people with any open cuts, burns, or wounds on their hands. Sneezing or coughing on the flags!

Those used flags should have been put in a compactor and buried, which is an acceptable mode of disposal! That is how the field gets rid of their normal trash and waste anyway!

This is yet another example of Obama’s false patriotism and disrespect to the many in the armed forces who provided the blanket of security so he may be free to criticize the government. He does not give two shits about American flags. They’re just props for the naïve. As a leader, showing great leadership skills, he should have made sure that the flags used for his convention were not thrown away for respect and the environment’s sake. The flags were merely part of his and Axelrod’s disgusting and manipulative strategy. It’s all a show to get the most powerful job in the world. Integrity, fair play, etc. are really for the weak and naive in Obama’s view. Obama only demands fair play so while others are holding up their end of the bargain, he can “cheat” and beat them… just like when he condemns attacks on Palin publicly but secretly colludes with the slick Machiavellian greedy spinster David Axelrod (who worked for John Edwards & Eliot Spitzer - anyone see a coincidence or running theme?) to promulgate ugly, spurious rumors through friendly AP, NYT reporters and blogs who are anything but places of journalistic integrity and logical intelligence.
Obama is such an overly ambitious person it baffles the mind. He’s 46 and arrogantly expects to be the president of the most powerful nation on Earth. What wisdom can he bring at the age of 46 that will circumvent and surpass those of the average politician and military generals who are age 56? What wisdom can he usefully glean from his weak, trumped up experience that he got from Emil Jones who also happens to be next on the indictment list for Rezko’s money corruption scandal in Chicago. Obama is not going to care what he has to do in order to get the position, much the same he’s now giving “Rezko” money to charity in some bullshit “mea culpa.” He used the Rezko money to get where he wanted and once he got there (name recognition, publicity, voted into office, etc) he got rid of the “money.” Just like the flags, they served their purpose to manipulate the national audience and off they went to the trash. Grow up people, we are being played by Obama, Axelrod, and the boneheads running the DNC.
I’m an African American democrat (yes, my ancestry comes from Africa, and my relatives picked cotton, suffered beatings, murder, lynching, and racism) but Obama is not getting my vote because he’s black (unlike the racist Oprah who has failed to rise above her ethnocentricity). I have a brain and an education, but the knee jerk swipe I always get from “brothers” is that I’m a HN or an Uncle Tom, so go ahead and follow that cliché.
Obama says he’s going to do all these great things, and some sound great, but no one has stopped to ask where he will get the money to do so. More direct taxes from us via intentionally false promises and higher prices at the store and gas station because he “stuck it” to the oil companies who simply passed on those higher taxes and fees to us. Does everyone think the oil companies are a non-profit organization that are just going to sit around and sing Kumbaya with Obama and his peace pipe crowd while they give us our money back?
Me and many others we’ve been speaking to in the community are not drinking the kool-aid because his pans will not work or help us. They’re bullshit words to get elected. He has not thoroughly convinced a lot of us and that will be greatest miscalculation in this election. California will be his biggest upset. That state is really a swing state since the majority of the democrats in California are moderate democrats and are slightly shifting towards the center as the state becomes more financially independent from the rest of the country due to the film, computer and aerospace industries. Why do you think Schwarzenegger, a Republican, got elected governor in a heavily democratic state by a landslide? Remember his campaign? He was the maverick going to unlock the congressional gridlock while the rich Hollywood liberals hissed at him but in the private voting booth cast their ballot to protect their lifestyle.
And now we are seeing that again but in a different form. Most of the Hollywood crowd want to be seen as part of the cool-hip crowd… “look at me, I’m open minded, I support a black man for the President” bullshit. Obama is a great orator, can read a teleprompter - great, but so is Jane Fonda and Susan Sarandon - they’re actors and great ones at that. Lofty words and speeches are great and inspiring, but they need to be backed up. I’m sick of the whole way Axelrod and the DNC (run by the embarrassing sexist clown Howard Dean) are trying to paint Obama as this JFK meets MLK. It’s bullshit because if anyone took the time to understand and read history, they will discover that JFK’s economic plan that lifted America during the early 60’s closely resembles McCain’s economic plan. Obama’s is quite the opposite.
I work hard for my salary and have faced unemployment many times… so I find it rather naïve and offensive of Obama to expect my blood, sweat, and tears will go to support the ones who sit around, blame everyone but themselves, and have their palms up. Wealth redistribution never works, ask the Soviets (oops, ex-Soviets).
Obama is not a communist. He is not an anything “ist” except for ego “ist”. He just wants to get into office to enjoy all the perks, power, and prestige. There’s no sense of rolling up the sleeves and working compassionately from the heart. Otherwise he would still be in Chicago as a community organizer, helping with housing and food shelters But he left that in rubble, brushing the poor off his lapel like an annoying insect, and moved on to get more bling. For all his chest pounding condemnation of the war in Iraq, the simple fact is that more Americans died this summer in Chicago (Obama’s hometown) than in the war in Iraq. If he’s so compassionate about the loss of American life, why doesn’t he focus on improving conditions in Chicago and Illinois, the very job he was elected to and promised to uphold.
All this speaks to his unscrupulous ambition as exemplified by the flags found in the trash.

It is, also, troubling of the deception and lies from the Dems. “These flags were stolen”. Instead of just replying straight out about this issue.
We are in real trouble if the Dems control the gov & White House. Not only becasue of their policies (higher taxes, energy, weaking the military, being defeatist, ect.. And no one can legitimately deny that the Dems voted to go to war in Iraq, then wanted to withdraw in defeat.
Also, becasue not only will they continue their deceit, the media will not expose them.

So what happened to the original story that “boy scouts rescued the flags from dumpsters?”… then it was that a vendor had “found them” in plastic bags by the dumpsters? Now photos of them in plastic bags by the stadium seats? Yeah, I’m not buying that someone fished out 12000 flags from the trash, neatly rolled them up, and transported them to the McCain camp a week later. If you want to believe that crap, then you are an idiot.

U.S. Code Title 4, Section 3 defines what “a flag” is, and I think it’s worth repeating here:
“The words ‘flag, standard, colors, or ensign’ as used herein, shall include any flag, standard, colors, ensign, or any picture or representation of either, or of any part or parts of either, made of any substance or represented on any substance, of any size evidently purporting to be either of said flag, standard, colors, or ensign of the United States of America or a picture or a representation of either, upon which shall be shown the colors, the stars and the stripes, in any number of either thereof, or of any part or parts of either, by which the average person seeing the same without deliberation may believe the same to represent the flag, colors, standard, or ensign of the United States of America.”
This is not fake… I personally have 4 of these flags rescued by a Veteran and then given to McCain / Palin. These were given to us as we were asked to take care of them and that if we were not going to then to give them back to the staff. Its a sad time when something like this happens. In regard to earthblends comment on Aug 30th, 2:24am, I disagree with you, this flag stands for the colors, creed, honor, and sacrifice and Freedom of this Great country, and the many men and women who have fought and died for these stars and stripes, don’t deserve this kind of presumption! You’re either part of the solution or you’re part of the problem! Don’t let me see you throw one away! Nor our many service men and women coming home to their HOME, don’t let them see you either, do it at 2:24am when no one is watching you! Or that won’t be all in the trash!
As a veteran of two branches of our services these pictures really make me mad. But what do you expect from a muslim that has no self respect let alone respect for our country.
It really doesn’t matter whether Obama is Muslim or Christian, he is not truthful. He talks from both sides of his mouth and we should not trust him. He has no experience and obviously keeps company with people who truly dislikes AMERICA. I do believe it was the Democrats responsibility for every aspect of their convention. Even the trash. One of the Middle Schools in our District raises money to purchase Flags each year and on Veterans Day places them at the gravesites of our veterans and around our schools as a part of our Veterans Day Program. If anyone is looking for a place to reuse the Flags, we would appreciate your help.

I was golfing as couple weeks ago with my 11 year old son. The flags on all the greens were American flags. I actually have a problem with that. Ever since I can remember I have been taught to not allow the American flag to touch the ground. The inherent problem with making a golf green flag an American flag is that is must touch the ground several times per day. Each green I searched out a place that I could lean the flag stick so the banner would not touch the ground. I, however, did not see anyone trying to be so careful.

Yes…our flag is going to get tossed, the tradition of using the Bible is going to be removed and taken from us…AND I would not be surprised that the tradition of bowing down facing east and bowing to Mecca at certain times of the day will be started in the US….
